Draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill Delayed
The Government has confirmed that publication of the draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill has been delayed due to unforeseen issues in finalising the legislation. While the Bill was expected before the Christmas recess, ministers now anticipate it will be published early in the new year. The Government has reiterated that leasehold and commonhold reform remains a key priority, including proposals to ban leasehold for most new flats and strengthen rights for existing homeowners.
The Government did take the opportunity to announce two new consultations. You can click on these links for more information:-
1) Reducing the prevalence of private estate management arrangements
2) Enhanced protections for homeowners on freehold estates.
We will update you as soon as we have heard anything in 2026 on the Draft Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill.
