Extending a Local Authority / Council Lease

We regularly act for Leaseholders looking to extend their leases where the Freeholder is the Local Authority.

In these situations, the process can take a little longer at the start, but once premium negotiations are underway, matters are usually agreed relatively quickly.  We have professional working relationships with a number of in house council Valuers and also some of the surveying firms that deal with lease extensions on behalf of Local Authorities.

Local Authorities have a duty to the local taxpayer to achieve the right compensation for a lease extension.  The leaseholder of the property may also be a local taxpayer and it is very much our view that the Local Authority should be looking to obtain the right premium and not the highest premium for a lease extension.

In recent months, we have acted against or are in the process of acting against numerous local authorities including the London Borough of Wandsworth, the London Borough of Lambeth, the London Borough of Southwark, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Brighton & Hove City Council.
